For the past 18 months I have been immersed in a project
with a major UK retailer. As Phase 1 draws to a successful conclusion its time
to reflect on what went before and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
Whilst this project has been very much data focused, technology has played a
major role. Technology will be responsible for the delivery of new information
sources to the people who will drive the business strategy; ultimately
delivering personalised value to its growing customer base.
On a personal front the project has involved lots of long
distance commuting. Has technology helped in this regard? Well mostly yes. My
bags aren’t any lighter but technology has enabled me to maintain some
semblance of connection with friends and family. So this is what is in my mobile office:
- Power: 4-gang extension, lap-top, Samsung, Apple
- Cables and connectors: Ethernet, Apple, Samsung, Fitbit,
- Networking: Apple Airport Express
- Accessories: external keyboard, mouse and speaker
- Kit: Dell laptop (work), IPad4 (personal)
- Mobile: Blackberry(work), Samsung (personal)
Apps that I use regularly on the road mainly via IPad:
- Outlook Webmail, for personal email
- Skype
- TV Players: BBC, ITV, SkyGo, 5OD
- Solitaire
- Fitbit and Endomondo
- Facebook, HooteSuite and LinkedIn
Next time I will explain why I feel the need to carry both
an IPad and a Smartphone.
